Imperialism was a time period in which more developed nations colonized less developed nations. The developed nations took advantage of the less developed nations resources, people, lands, and much more. Many countries lost their freedom and independence due to imperialism, however, they also received new technologies and innovations. Since there were many nations involved, there were many attributes that led up to imperialism. Firstly, the Europeans wanted economic expansion. Since the industrial revolution had taken place, the Europeans were in need of more natural resources. They also wanted new markets for the sake of selling industrial products. The same theories that were from Charles Darwin had been applied to human society. The theories on natural selection and evolution. It known that those who were stronger and superior c ould enjoy a wealthy and lavish lifestyle. The fittest of survival. Europeans believed that non-Europeans were lower, physically and culturally. This was believed because the Europeans, at the time, were the only people to make scientific and technological breakthroughs. There were many nations involved in the European imperialism. Latin America and the seaports of Asia and Africa were the first to be colonized. England had been leading the colonial power amongst the Europeans. France had been second in command. Portugal, Spain and Holland received few colonies. Germany and Italy were last to join because they unified themselves in the 1860s. Africa had delayed its colonization because of its many diseases and geography. Africa became colonized in the 19th Century. Europeans were able to colonize Africa because of the many advantages they had over them. Firstly, the Maxim gun had been acquired. This was the first automatic machine gun to be produced. The Europeans were able to trave l much more easily due to the steam engine. Since Africa had many diseases such as malaria, Europeans were able to create drugs to protect themselves from such diseases. Citarella welcomes guest into a neat and comfortable environment where customers and purchasers can shop for items in a relaxed, well-organized place. As a first timer everything in the market seemed more upscale and elegant, which immediately made me realize this market was a great vendor. Citarella creates an atmosphere that makes buyers want to enjoy their food shopping at this market. Upon reaching 75th Street, I noticed the big orange â€Å"Citarella† sign on the corner. The window display had actual meat which already showed me how high quality and value their food was. It seemed very differently than my local markets around my neighborhood. I opened the door and the market was full of people . This must be a sign of a great market. The place was made of bricks, and all the walls were covered in different food displays of each individual food section. The fresh smell of vegetables an area of cooked food cultivated my nose right away. I started my analysis in the vegetables and fresh pasta section. They had various selection from ravioli, tortellini and many others. Across from me, I saw the lettuce at a price range of $1. 89 lbs. This was awkward for me seeing lettuce being purchased by its weight. I also noticed Citarella promotes their new product in every section using big yellow tags stating the product name, price and brand. That idea is great if you are an experimental buyer or chef that like to try new things in the kitchen. Afterwards, I worked my way to the seafood section and noticed all the different types of seafood in stock. I looked down and seen groups of live lobsters in three big tanks. For a small market, there was every product any person would need, from fat-free to organic products. Citarella carries various brands, including their own brand too. The meat department and fruit section were located on the first floor as well. All the meat looked healthy and all the fruits looked nice and ripped. As a gourmet market every section was well organized and established. The products seemed to be handled with best care to provide the best service possible. While looking around the market, a customer who spotted me writing on my pad asked, â€Å" If I was a critic? † I politely responded â€Å"No† then i asked. â€Å" What makes you shop at Citarella? † he replied â€Å"The quality of the food†. The second floor was the dairy, coffee section, and the bakery. I headed straight towards the bakery. I headed straight towards the bakery. I’m addicted to sweets and all the pastries available looked so good and well polished. I ordered myself a small individual size berries tart with vanilla Creme at a price of $1. 25. The pastry was delicious and for a small market, Citarella obtains a great bakery. Most markets won’t provide this extra selection, which adds extra advantages to this market. On my right I noticed a big coffee section. There were many coffee beans from various places. Having someone brew your coffee in person immediately appealed as as a great customer service to me. This market was just so welcoming. The experience in the market was great. I loved every aspect of it and entering Citarella open my mind to a different view of a market. I learned and seen so many different things I never realized while food shopping. The customer service was great and the atmosphere was full of tranquility. ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ is told in a series of letters that were addressed from the main character, Charlie, to an anonymous reader as an outlet for his fears. Charlie is a freshman in high school and is just starting to learn to accept and identify who he really is. After loosing his best friend to suicide, Charlie is left to experience high school on his own. Throughout this novel, Charlie begins to develop and mature as his character is faced with a handful of unfamiliar situations. Charlie, the main character, does not give much of a visual on the physical appearance of himself or many of the characters in the story. The reader is left to assume and imagine him on their own terms. From the start of the novel it seems that Charlie has a unique way of thinking and acting, and you may find yourself trying to work out what’s ‘wrong’ with him. Charlie puts all of the things you may think about as you grow up but can’t quite verbalize, into more simple terms, which gives him a particular charm that is easily relatable. Being an introvert myself like Charlie, found it easy to think of Charlie as a friend. I found that we often thought very alike, and think too much sometimes. Compared to Charlie, I as well find it sometimes hard to actively participate in life; Charlie gives a certain outlook onto the whole ‘wallflower’ idea that makes it seem okay. And even though you may feel uninvited and peculiar in life in many ways Charlie’s insight lets you feel positive and worthy of enjoying yourself. In his own words, So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe well never know most of them. But even if we dont have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose wherever we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them No matter how blatant many of his epiphanies are, Charlies small discoveries about his potential and happiness remain true and meaningful. He is one of those characters you wish were real, and in the presence of. Charlie’s character is very lovable; he is honest, real, blunt, and likable. Charlie’s words are wonderfully written and convey a very real and authentic vision, and after awhile you realize you had a lot more in common with him than you thought. One of the good things about Charlie is that he is just a genuinely nice person and teaches you to look and care about people they way he does. He gives a refreshing perspective on routine and normal events while being brutally honest. ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ delivers a memorable main character that sets forth on his high school journey trying to remain sane in the midst of life and feeling out of place, but in fact is just like you and me.
